Sometimes supporters of natural birth can come across as unsupportive of women who birth another way. With so much emphasis on "natural" birth as the ideal, it's easy to forget how that can leave women feeling if they end up with an unexpected c-section, or if they never planned on unmedicated labor to begin with.
At Corvallis Proud Mama Support Services, we are different. We support all families and all births. We firmly believe that no birth is better than any other birth. Whether your c-section was planned in advance or was the end result of a natural labor, we've created a local forum on Facebook call "Corvallis C-section Group" for you where you can find support, encouragement, information, and resources without feeling like a value-judgement is being placed on the way you gave birth, or the way you feel about how your birth turned out.
You are welcome to join us.
From our client's feedback, we are also identifying other areas of support that are lacking in our local area. We'll be working to offer more support on those topics as well. Stay tuned for more resources coming soon.
How much do things change in 20-40 years? Ask any parent whose baby is about to have a baby!
Some things DO change a lot in 20-40 years, especially when it comes to infants, such as safe sleep guidelines, baby equipment, medical diagnoses, and parenting trends. And yet, there are some things that remain constant throughout the generations. What babies need most is love and attention.
That's why we are so pleased to announce our latest class offering: Grandparenting 101.
Join us for a "refresher" course on newborn care and how best to support brand new parents. Get updated on the latest research on parenting techniques, breastfeeding, baby gadgets, and new safety guidelines. We will also explore the differences between parenting styles and discuss strategies to support your loved ones even when their parenting philosophy is not in line with your own.
Prepare yourself to be the best grandparent you can be.
The class is offered over three Tuesday evenings, 7-8pm April 12, 19, and 26, and is offered through Corvallis Parks and Recreation.
Look for the Corvallis Parks and Recreation Activity Guide for full details. It will arrive in the mail to city residents around March 19.
