For some people, the turn of the year inspires them to form a new resolution, to add something new to their life (a new exercise routine, a new savings account, a new diet, etc.). For me, it always inspires a return to simplicity. I love to take stock of the past year and decide what I want to keep and what I want to prune away. What is working in my life, and what is no longer helping me move toward that which I value the most? Just like each branch of a fruit tree, what stays connected to the tree contributes to the life and productivity of the tree, but it also requires energy and resources. Prune back some of the branches, and the tree has more energy to devote to the remaining branches. The result is lots of beautiful, delicious fruit.
Over the last few months, I have had some pretty big reminders that my children and my family are at the center of what I hold most dear. And so, I'm making changes to my life and how I spend my time and energy so that I can have more time to be available and present with my family. At the end of 2018, I completed a process of downsizing Proud Mama Support Services back to basics, from a multi-doula team offering a wide spectrum of perinatal services, to something that fits better with my personal life and family priorities for this coming year.
Proud Mama Support Services is continuing on, as my solo postpartum doula practice, and I look forward to continuing to serve our community! I continue to offer postpartum support to families, private childbirth classes, and Mamalates classes at Live Well Studio, but on a more limited, Monday through Friday, 9am-2pm schedule.
The rest of the former team of Proud Mama Support Services continues to offer many other services under their own businesses, including perinatal massage therapy, postpartum support (including evenings and overnight), and birth doula services. I am so grateful to Sophie Grow, Jesse Grow, Jessica Bliss, and Jaya Conser Lapham, along with all other former team members for being a part of Proud Mama with me. They will continue to add so much richness to our community with their valuable work.
The Corvallis Perinatal Support Group is continuing on, with facilitator and former PMSS doula Sophie Grow at the helm. You can find out more at Grow Doula Services.
I am also changing my use of and relationship to social media in a big way. I'm moving toward a very minimal approach to social media engagement. Yes, even as a business owner! It can be done! So, if you follow Proud Mama Support Services on Facebook, or if we're Facebook friends, you may notice I'm not around on that platform. The best way to stay in touch is to sign up for my newsletter, which will keep you up to date on upcoming classes, workshops, and more!
There are great things in store for me and Proud Mama Support Services in 2019. I'm excited!
Where are you focusing your energy in 2019? How are you invigorating growth toward those goals? Drop me an email or a comment and let me know. I would love to hear from you!
